ECOMMERCE RESEARCH

Research

For this I will be researching other eCommerce websites that relate to the takeaway I am building the website for so I will be looking at other food eCommerce website and also I will be looking into just eat too. I will also be looking into hosting prices and other prices that the client would need to take into consideration.

Secondary

When i researched how much takeaways had to pay to have themselves on the just eat website, this is what i found out. i found out that the takeaways that were surveyed by an unknown source paid an average of £725 per month in fees, based on a minimum order commission of 10%, and those paying more were, unsurprisingly, more peeved: 81% of restaurants spending between £1,001 and £2,000 a month with Just Eat thought the fees were unfair. It would be a lot cheaper for takeaway companies to have their own eCommerce website, however it would be more work for the company as they might even have to hire someone else to deal with the IT/Web side of it. However, they might not get as many customers if they have their own eCommerce website as just eat is the most popular one, therefore people could just go on Just Eat all the time rather than trying other websites that do not have a reputation as good a just Eat.

The cost of hosting an eCommerce website is…

The cost of hosting your eCommerce website will vary depending on the amount of traffic your site receives or that you expect to receive. You could be looking at as little as £10 per month for a decent shared hosting solution, or 200+ per month for something dedicated.

Design and build

  • Around £2k – £5k for a very basic site from a small agency or freelancer, probably built on Shopify or WordPress.
  • Between £30 to £50K for something more sophisticated that is built for you by 5 – 30 person agency.
  • £50k+ for more complex projects e.g. large Magento or Demandware builds.
  • £100k+ when working with larger agencies on larger technology stacks.

I have also looked through the Just Eat website so i can get a good idea of how to present it all and how to make it look, the just-eat website is very well organised and also looks very nice too.

Here is a list of other food eCommerce websites.

  • Taza Chocolate.
  • Pipcorn.
  • OrangeGlad.
  • Mouth.
  • Uproot Wines.
  • Nature Box.
  • Syrup.
  • Bittermilk.

All of these eCommerce websites have a lot of similar features. From my research i have discovered that all eCommerce websites that sell food have a lot in common, they all have a small detail in common which is a deal for your first purchase.

A few things i have found out that are essential for an eCommerce website are:

A clear logo

Deals, Freebies, free shipping

The latest news and popular products

Shopping cart, login box, search box

payment systems icon

social media links

phone numbers and contact details

store finder
